Fitness Background

I have been active in sports since I was a kid.  I like trying new things to expand my athletic experience and to see just what I can achieve in sports both familiar as well as unfamiliar to me.  My competitive athletic historysoftball, tennis, track and field, golf (tournament play), running (5k to 50K ultra endurance events), triathlon events including Eppie's Ironwoman (3rd place AG), cycling (road racing), catamaran (sailboat) racing, and bodybuilding (3 wins, including the 1997 AAU Ms. California Bodybuilding Champion at age 40).

My current passion is trail running.  To share this passion with others, in 2008 I started the
Folsom Lake Trail Run Series for trail running/racing enthusiasts and the Folsom Trail Runners group, which has grown to over 700 members in less than 2 years.

My Training Philosophy

My approach to training is to train the body as a whole; to include a variety of training methods that will ensure a well-balanced, strong body.  Designing training programs to help my clients achieve their fitness goals may include TRX Suspension Training,  Strength/Resistance Training, Functional Training (training the whole body with movement, including balance, agility, speed, power and plyometrics), Cardiovascular Training (including Heart Zones training), Core Training and Stability Training (including medicine balls, stability balls, Bosu, balance disks, mat pilates and more) and Yoga.  Training methods will be specific to your level of fitness and goals.  If you are an athlete, my sport specific training will improve your performance...if you're not an athlete, it won't be long before you feel like one.

An important component of health and fitness is Nutrition.  As a Certified Specialist in Performance Nutrition, I can help my clients achieve their ideal body composition, optimum health and performance.

Race Directing

My passion for trail running prompted me to start the Folsom Lake Trail Run Series so that others may enjoy trail running and racing on the beautiful trails in our area.  My mission is to expose more people to the trail running experience and to provide more trail running events in our area.  Trail running is challenging and will therefore make you a stronger runner.  Many runners are switching from road to trail running because running on trails is softer than running on the pavement and will prevent injuries so common in road running.  You'll also find that you use your core, upper body, hips, glutes and calves to propel yourself up the hills, down the hills and over uneven terrain, which ultimately equals better fitness!  Trail running is mentally stimulating, so you'll find the time goes by faster, you'll run farther and you'll have more fun and enjoy the beauty of running in nature.  Furthermore, trail running will improve balance, agility and mental focus.

If you are interested in meeting and training with other trail running enthusiasts, join the Folsom Trail Runners.  FTR is large group (more than 700 members) of diverse levels of runners.  www.meetup.com/FolsomTrailRunners
